Typography is balance and interplay of letter forms on the page as well as a verbal and visual equation. It’s task involve locating a piece of information in text and asking reader to integrate pieces of information. It can also direct readers to locate information in different sentences of paragraphs. For effective typography, create clear text. Distinguish between proportional and monospaced fonts. Also, be sure principle type is plain and roman in style. Keep lentht brief. Have purpose for decisions.

The five style faces used are times new roman, georgia, verdana, arial and trebuchet.

To emphasize typography use italics to attract the eye. Also, bold, underlined, colored and capital letters are useful.

Typeface communicating is association and basic visual communicating. The typeface has a tone to produce a harmonious fit between verbal and visual flow of content.

xyqdwo does not fit font face style.

Display type involves odd combinations of characters, spaces and punctuation. Text type defines text which share a purpose. Text with patterns of language and vocabulary are part of a text type.

www.site point.com/article checklist uses an effective font design because it does not use all capitals in a block of text. However the specific text is boldface to emphasize the purpose of the checklist. Usability and accessibility give the user more confidence.

In books, page numbers, indexes and title pages are examples of interface standards in books. In the web an informative title, the creators identity and a link to a home page are examples.

Interface burden results when web designers use navigation and page numbers which are unpredictable and unfamiliar. By using clear icons and graphic identity schemes of summary screens you can avoid interface burden and give users confidence in what they are looking for.

The best information designs aren’t noticed means that navigation aids are used consistently on every page such that the interface becomes nearly invisible.

Flanders discusses mystery meat navigation as well as why navigation themes do not really work. MMN is not user friendly because the navigation scheme is hard for the user to memorize.

Peterson offers tips for good navigation Look for icons which would be standard and nonstandard. Standard would be a three tiered navigation tool bar. A nonstandard icon would be using an unexplained text link.

For Ikea.com, the heading uses the title Ikea and same links on all pages.

When organizing information it is important to consider how information structures are related so they can make logical sense to the web viewer. To organize you can divide content by using a hierarchy of important points making it useful for creating relationships between your units.

When designing a web structure think of how you will navigate the information so it will be more organized for the reader. Consider three structures for organizing: first use sequencing which can be chronological, a logical series of topics or alphabetical. This will allow the reader to flow from one idea to the next. Another method hierarchies are useful when dealing with organized material.

When designing a page consider composition sequence and legibility. Visuals are useful because they keep information interesting. Avoid dense text documents because they are hard for the reader if they lack contrast. By using consistency through a grid and style you can build unity across your pages without the reader becoming bored.

Content in a website include minimal word use and defining sequence of instruction to guide your readers. Upper and lower case letters are important in showing an affirmative voice which will make your topic more appealing. Avoid prose to keep reader focused.

Writing web content and organizing it is vital. To do this you can put important information on top followed by relevant information. Avoid useless information in order to keep reader interested by allowing a quick understanding. Consider the goals and needs of the site when organizing.

One way you can set up your web hierarchy is to put HTML files at one level and then the other files in a hierarchal kit organized by importance of information. Resources can be broken down to images software and sounds.

In the article on web site definition and planning rhetorical techniques to consider are described and are useful for every web designer. They reemphasize the point that your goal is to draw an audience to your site. In order to do this however one must recognize the purpose for their website , how to collect and analyze information for that site and how to make the information accessible as well as comprehensive for your readers. Following these points will retain integrity in your site.

In the article web design mistakes, I found it useful to understand why you don’t want to open new browser windows. If one does this they seem to throw to much at the viewer which can turn the reader away from your site. Being consistent with narrow, direct information will keep your web users on track with the information you are presenting. Mentioning other sources or using biographies will enhance your credibility because you are allowing the reader to refer to other texts of information. It is important to avoid advertising techniques which will cause your readers to lose interest in your site. Keep navigation consistent with your goal so you do not divert the reader’s attention.

In Jacob Nielsen’s article font size is considered because it needs to be legible to enhance your web pages. The use of flash to attract readers will only annoy them because it can be a distraction which may cause them to lose interest in the information when writing content for the web, remember it needs to be short and point driven. The ability of your site to answer questions will also make the reader more comfortable with your site. Considering how your photos will pop up when the user clicks can serve to keep their interest but consider photo size and how to present it.

When building your first website keep the backgrounds simple and clutter free to not distract your reader’s attention. Graphics can be useful but as a tool of rhetoric to many or inappropriate ones can cause readers to lose interest in your site. Making your pages linear and clutter free will also attract your readers.

When evaluating the design process it is vital to consider methods and procedures with which you will present your topics on the web. It is important to produce relevant content which will educate your audience. Exchange of information with users to keep them updated and use support lines, customer surveys and interviews. Also, meet expectations of reader by considering questions they will have and by using a navigation system. Layout is important to consider for your design. User involvement will also help your site because they can take a more active role in how information is presented. Understand how the site will perform and make it useful, organizing content so it engages the reader will give your web a higher performance rating. Setting goals is vital because knowing what you want your site to achieve and designing it to make that achievement will entice viewers to revisit your website.

In Scott Burken’s article he brings up a critical idea which is to critique existing ideas among peers in order to lend more credibility. Changes which result from this critique will make the information more useful because the team can decide which direction to take the information. This will allow the web design to be more reader friendly be addressing relevant issues the reader will want to explore.

Understanding the goals of the critique will allow the group to work together instead of by different assumptions. Using resources and making adjustments to your project will prove useful when presenting it on the web to your web viewers. Getting different feedback, comparing different aspects of the project and permitting group members to give feedback from their expertise in an area will strengthen the credibility of what you post because they can add information that the other group members may not have included. When designing a project questions to ask may include what are the scenarios the site is designed for?

In article one it is essential to gain the trust of the reader if you hope to capture their interest. This is an important rhetorical technique to maintaining your integrity. Important points to use the web effectively in order to capture the reader’s attention include a focus on the main ideas and the use of lists to hold the reader’s attention. This is valuable because people who view the web tend to scan over it.

The use of captions is a strong rhetorical tool because they reach a wider audience making information accessible. This includes access for visually impaired persons. Making the web scanner friendly will entice people to repeatedly want to revisit your website. Updating your web pages with current information will maintain intellectual integrity because people invite further information for discussion.

In Gerry McGovern’s article, the rhetorical tool of better writing is discussed in order to make your website more engaging to the public. He reemphasizes the fact that you need to keep the information straight to the point and not involve extensive detail. Gerry’s deadly sins of web writing remind us that the web is a powerful tool but the rhetorical techniques must be adapted to reach a specific audience. This is done by making the information relative to the listener not just you. Accepting your shortcomings in certain areas of writing will make you more credible as a web poster. Understanding that outside help can be useful will make your content more valid.

Cameron Moll’s article focuses on the use- fullness and uselessness of the homepage. The metaphor he describes of the homepage as a vacuum is useful because it tells us that the homepage is a rhetorical tool which can bring the reader to the content. The pulling technique works to entice readers because it encourages them to read about your content. Referring readers to other sections of your website is a great way to hold their interest. Keep the content of your homepage centralized on an important point. This point is what the reader needs to focus on so why cause them to lose interest in it with non-relevant information. It is vital to entice your readers to go beyond the homepage to get to the core of your topic.

Patrick Lynch and Sarah Horton give us points in creating a website. They describe developing a site by considering the design. In designing it is important to ask questions such as to whom is the site designed for. In addition consider the tools you will use to make that audience relate to your topic.

Site design themes give a diagram to show the different areas your topic can cover. The circles in the diagram display the themes which you base information on to allow you to adjust your presentation to that specific audience. To make your site effective the presentation needs sophisticated stimulation in order to encourage your intended audience to further explore your website. The use of flash will likely decrease the rhetorical use-fullness of your site.

Remediation- present in a different medium. Conventions of presentation change movement back and fourth. Web version effects printed version.

This site appeals to me because it defines my feelings towards creativity. The photos in the portfolio give a strong visual of creativity by displaying the contrasts in creativity while showing the harmony these contrasts can create. The images of nature reflect my personality which is to be connected with my surroundings but not confined by them. In addition, the pictures allow me to see how creativity is a process that can involve several elements working together at once.
