    In books, page numbers, indexes and title pages are examples of interface standards in books.  In the web an informative title, the creators identity and a link to a home page are examples.

Interface burden results when web designers use navigation and page numbers which are unpredictable and unfamiliar.  By using clear icons and graphic identity schemes of summary screens you can avoid interface burden and give users confidence in what they are looking for.

The best information designs aren’t noticed means that navigation aids are used consistently on every page such that the interface becomes nearly invisible.

Flanders discusses mystery meat navigation as well as why navigation themes do not really work.  MMN is not user friendly because the navigation scheme is hard for the user to memorize.

Peterson offers tips for good navigation  Look for icons which would be standard and nonstandard.  Standard would be a three tiered navigation tool bar.  A nonstandard icon would be using an unexplained text link.

For Ikea.com, the heading uses the title Ikea and same links on all pages.
